The N 149 A EU (008447) is the dedicated engine for Neumann's modern tube series. Tube microphones require specific, high-quality voltages for the capsule bias, tube filament, and plate that standard 48V phantom power cannot provide. The N 149 A is engineered with a switching regulator and two-stage active filtering to deliver exceptionally clean power, free from interference. This EU version comes with a standard European mains cable but is internally designed to handle global voltages from 100V to 240V.

Intelligent Sensor Circuitry:

The N 149 A is more than a simple power source; it is an active monitoring system. It utilizes a sensor line within the KT 8 cable to monitor the actual voltage reaching the microphone. If there is a voltage drop due to a very long cable run (up to 100 meters), the power supply automatically compensates, ensuring the tube always operates under its ideal, factory-specified conditions regardless of distance.

Soft-Start for Maximum Tube Life:

Vacuum tubes are most vulnerable during the initial power-up phase. To protect your investment, the N 149 A generates a constant current "soft start." This gradually brings the tube filament up to temperature, preventing the thermal shock that can lead to premature tube failure. An integrated LED on the front panel glows dimly when the unit is on and brightens once the microphone is properly connected and the voltages have stabilized.

Advanced Signal Filtering:

To maintain the industry-leading signal-to-noise ratio of microphones like the M 149, the N 149 A employs analog pre-controlling and two-stage active filtering. This effectively scrubs unwanted noise and interference from the switching regulator's output. The result is a pure, transparent audio path that allows the natural character of the tube and capsule to shine through without any added electronic "hiss" or "hum."

Universal Voltage & Balanced Output:

While this model is the EU variant (008447), the internal circuitry is truly global, operating flawlessly on 100V to 240V (50/60 Hz) mains. The microphone connects via a secure DIN-8 connector, and the audio signal is output through a standard 3-pin XLR-M connector. The unit is also safe to connect to audio inputs that have 48V phantom power engaged; the N 149 A includes protective circuitry to ensure no damage occurs to the power supply or the microphone.
