The OD5 is designed to solve the common frustrations of studio and stage miking. Its unique swivel mechanism allows the microphone basket to rotate 220°, enabling you to find the "sweet spot" on a snare drum or speaker cabinet without fighting with restricted microphone stands. By utilizing an active-dynamic circuit, Austrian Audio ensures the mic has a high sensitivity of 6.7 mV/Pa, allowing it to capture the subtle transients of woodwinds while still being able to withstand the thunderous volume of a kick drum.

The Active Dynamic Advantage:

Unlike standard passive dynamic mics, the OD5 uses active circuitry powered by phantom power. This provides two major benefits: first, it makes the microphone cable-invariant, meaning the frequency response won't change even if you use 50-foot cables; second, it allows for the integration of a sophisticated high-pass filter and a -10dB pad. This makes it an incredibly versatile workhorse that can be moved from a delicate acoustic guitar to a loud brass section with just a flip of a switch.

Proprietary Open Acoustics Technology:

The Austrian Audio OD5 employs a specialized suspension system for both the capsule and the basket. This Open Acoustics design reduces internal resonances and provides a highly precise cardioid pattern. This ensures that even when you have "bleed" from other instruments (like cymbals hitting a snare mic), the off-axis sound remains natural and undistorted, making your final mix much cleaner.

Versatile Tone Shaping:

• CAB (Cut & Boost) Filter: The 80Hz filter is specifically tuned for guitar amps, removing muddy low-end while increasing "pressure" in the bass region to give the amp more punch.

• 120Hz High-Pass Filter: A standard second-order filter to eliminate unwanted stage rumble or floor vibrations.

• Extreme SPL Handling: Capable of handling up to 151 dB SPL (and over 160 dB with the pad engaged), it is one of the most overload-resistant microphones in its class.
