Product Overview

The 1987X is the definitive 50W "Plexi" reissue, offering the perfect balance between classic Marshall overdrive and glistening clean tones. While its 100W big brother (the 1959SLP) is built for stadium power, the 1987X is cherished for its ability to reach that sweet, singing valve saturation at a slightly more manageable volume. Designed, engineered, and handcrafted in our UK factory, this head brings the legendary late-60s "Super Lead" sound to the modern stage with a few essential contemporary upgrades.

Product Description

  • Classic Plexi Tones: The 1987X accurately recreates the iconic "Plexi" sound—raw, organic, and incredibly touch-sensitive. It is the amp that defined the transition from blues to hard rock, providing a harmonic richness that modern digital emulations still strive to match.

  • Dual-Channel Bridgeable Design: Featuring the classic four-input layout, this head has two distinct channels: Normal (warm and thick) and High Treble (bright and aggressive). By "jumping" the channels with a patch cable, you can blend both voices to create a massive, customized soundscape.

  • Modern Twist (FX Loop): Unlike the original late-60s units, this reissue features a series FX loop with a true bypass switch. This allows you to integrate modern time-based effects (like delay and reverb) without degrading the legendary all-valve signal path when the loop is not required.

  • 50 Watts of Pure Valve Grit: Driven by two EL34 power amp valves and three ECC83 preamp valves, the 1987X delivers a punchy 50W output. It is renowned for its "creamy" distortion and the way it cleans up perfectly using just your guitar's volume knob.

  • Authentic UK Build: Every 1987X is hand-built in Bletchley, England, ensuring the high-quality construction and durability that professional guitarists have relied on for decades.

Key Features

  • All-Valve Circuitry: Authentic valve-driven performance for the ultimate "Plexi" experience.

  • Single-Channel Simplicity: A non-master volume design that encourages you to drive the power valves for natural, harmonic saturation.

  • True Bypass FX Loop: Keeps the vintage tone intact while offering modern pedalboard flexibility.

  • Bridgeable Channels: Use the four inputs to blend the Normal and High Treble loudness controls.
