It does not use modern "switching" power supply technology; instead, it utilizes a traditional linear power supply with a high-quality mains transformer to ensure the purest, lowest-noise signal path possible. Designed for global use, it automatically adapts to local mains voltages while providing the specialized, stable voltages required for high-sensitivity subminiature and vintage vacuum tubes.

Remote Pattern Control Mastery:

The defining feature of the NM V is its front-panel continuously variable rotary knob. This allows the engineer to remotely transition the microphone’s pickup pattern from Omnidirectional to Cardioid to Figure-8, including every intermediate setting in between. This remote capability is invaluable in studio settings, allowing for "on-the-fly" adjustments to the room sound or instrument isolation directly from the control room.

Universal Compatibility (Vintage & Modern):

Neumann has engineered the NM V with a deep respect for heritage. While it is the standard supply for the new M 49 V, it is "suitable in principle" for nearly all vintage Neumann microphones powered by the AC 701 tube. An intelligent sensor circuit ensures that the optimal heater voltage is provided for the specific tube being used, effectively "breathing new life" into older M 49 or M 249 units with a safe, modern power source.

"Soft Start" Tube Protection:

Vacuum tubes are most vulnerable when first turned on. To maximize the longevity of expensive and rare tubes, the NM V features a gentle heating-up phase with integrated current limiting. This "soft start" prevents thermal shock to the filament, ensuring your microphone remains in peak condition for decades.

To maintain the legendary 74 dB signal-to-noise ratio of the M 49 V, the NM V employs extremely effective internal filtering.
