In many professional setups, monitors or subwoofers are flush-mounted into walls to improve acoustic response. However, this often leads to heat dissipation issues and makes rear-panel controls inaccessible. The REK 3 allows you to move the "brains" of your subwoofer into a ventilated 19" equipment rack or a convenient service area, leaving only the acoustic cabinet in the listening room.
Enhanced Thermal & Maintenance Efficiency:
By removing the electronics from the speaker cabinet, the REK 3 eliminates heat buildup—a common cause of component fatigue in enclosed spaces. This separation also simplifies maintenance; if an adjustment or service is required, the engineer can access the control panel in the rack without having to demount or move the heavy subwoofer enclosure.
Flexible Installation Options:
The kit consists of a dedicated cover plate for the subwoofer cabinet, a robust electronics chassis, and two internal cable harnesses equipped with Neutrik speakON chassis connectors. The electronics chassis is designed for 19-inch rack mounting, allowing it to sit alongside your power conditioners and signal processors.
Pristine Signal over Distance:
To maintain the high-fidelity performance Neumann is known for, the REK 3 uses a 4-pole high-current connection. For the run between the rack-mounted electronics and the speaker cabinet, a standard 4-pole speakON terminated loudspeaker cable (available from third parties) is required. This ensures a low-resistance, secure connection that preserves the damping factor and transient response of the amplifier.
Ideal for High-End Venues:
The REK 3 is particularly favored in performance venues and large-scale post-production suites where subwoofers may be hidden under floors or in ceiling voids. Having the controls at the mix position or in a machine room allows for real-time calibration of LFE gain and crossover settings without physical access to the cabinet.
