The Ultimate Powerhouse for Reference Monitoring
The KH 870 II is engineered for environments where power, depth, and precision are equally critical. It acts as the intelligent control center for your entire monitoring system, offering enough internal DSP processing to align not only its own dual-woofer output but also the connected analog KH line monitors. Whether building a stereo mastering suite or a complex 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos® array, the KH 870 II ensures that every low-frequency transient is reproduced with absolute phase linearity and tonal neutrality.
Dual-Driver Authority and Precision:
The KH 870 II utilizes two in-house modeled 10-inch long-throw woofers with Extremely Linear Force Factor™ (ELFF™) technology. This dual-driver arrangement provides a massive surface area, allowing the subwoofer to move a significant volume of air with minimal excursion, resulting in ultra-low harmonic distortion even at high replay levels. The low-frequency response is linear down to 16 Hz, providing a visceral, "dry" bass feel that is essential for tracking and mixing modern low-end-heavy content.
DSP-Powered Multi-Channel Calibration:
The standout feature of the "II" generation is its integrated DSP engine. When paired with the Neumann MA 1 Automatic Monitor Alignment, the KH 870 II can calibrate the entire system's frequency and phase response. This is a massive upgrade for analog monitors like the KH 310 or KH 420, as the subwoofer's DSP linearizes the transition at the crossover point, creating a cohesive, high-resolution soundstage that eliminates room-induced acoustic "accidents."
Flexible Multichannel Bass Management:
The KH 870 II features a bypassable 4th-order active crossover with four distinct routing modes, making it compatible with everything from standard stereo to immersive 3D audio formats. By offloading the low-frequency workload, the main monitors can achieve up to 8 dB more SPL with significantly reduced intermodulation distortion in the critical midrange.
Robust Build and Installation Versatility:
The ultra-stiff wooden cabinet is designed using computer-modeled Low Resonance Integral Molding™ (LRIM™) to eliminate standing waves. The front-mounted, flow-optimized ports allow for flexible placement against walls or flush-mounting into a wall. For larger control rooms, multiple KH 870 II units can be daisy-chained to create a Plane Wave Bass Array™ (PWBA™), dramatically improving lateral bass consistency across a wide listening area.
Flagship Dual 10" ELFF™ Drivers: Massive output with surgical precision and low distortion.
Deep Impact to 16 Hz: Full-range low-frequency extension for the most demanding content.
Integrated DSP Engine: Provides room alignment and phase correction for the entire system.
