Professional Loudspeaker Emulation in a Compact Desktop Design
The SPL Phonitor One bridges the gap between traditional headphone monitoring and loudspeaker mixing. Standard headphone listening suffers from an unnatural, exaggerated stereo panorama where the left and right channels are completely isolated. The Phonitor One solves this critical issue by integrating a specialized analog crossfeed matrix. Hand-built with premium electronic components, this high-fidelity amplifier replicates the natural crosstalk and room reflections of a studio monitor setup, allowing audio engineers, producers, and audiophiles to make precise mixing and panning decisions without ear fatigue.
Premium Burr-Brown Preamplification Circuitry:
The input stage of the Phonitor One relies on two high-performance Burr-Brown OPA 2134 SoundPlus operational amplifiers. These specialized chips are meticulously chosen for audiophile circuits, offering ultra-low noise and a minimal distortion rating of just 0.00008%. Utilizing a true FET input stage, these high-speed op-amps achieve a lightning-fast slew rate of 20V/µs, translating into vibrant, lively transient responses. The signal path is further elevated by low-capacitance film bypass capacitors and elite Panasonic gold electrolytic coupling capacitors for maximum storage capacity and precise high-frequency transmission.
High-Power Class AB Output Stage:
The power amplifier section is configured as a push-pull system running in Class AB mode. Thermally coupled bipolar transistors split the positive and negative audio half-waves coherently, providing significantly higher gain, superior output voltage, and deeper current reserves than standard Class A designs. A low-resistance buffer circuit ensures the amplifier effortlessly drives a vast spectrum of studio headphones—from power-hungry, high-impedance 600-Ohm audiophile models to highly sensitive, low-impedance monitoring pairs—delivering an uncolored, punchy, and ultra-stable soundstage.
The Innovative Phonitor Matrix (Adjustable Crossfeed):
The true revolution inside the Phonitor One is the integrated analog Phonitor Matrix. While full-sized Phonitor units offer manual adjustments for center level and speaker angles, the Phonitor One pre-sets these to the industry-standard defaults: a 30° speaker placement angle and a -1 dB center level reduction. The front panel features a fully variable Crossfeed knob that lets you control the level of channel crosstalk (interaural level difference). When turned to the minimum position, the crossfeed circuit is completely removed from the signal path via an internal hysteresis relay, preserving a completely untouched pure-analog line path.
Flexible Connectivity and Pro-Level Headroom:
The rear panel provides excellent connectivity for both home consumer and pro-studio gear, featuring a pair of balanced 1/4-inch TRS inputs (+4 dBu) alongside a pair of unbalanced RCA inputs. A rugged front-panel switch toggles seamlessly between these two input sources. Although the unit utilizes a standard external 12V DC power adapter, an internal secondary power supply boosts the voltage up to a staggering ±17 Volts for the analog audio sections, generating a massive dynamic ceiling with professional line levels of up to +22.5 dBu.
Innovative Phonitor Matrix: Built-in speaker emulation circuit mimics the crosstalk of stereo loudspeakers to ensure mixes translate perfectly onto commercial sound systems.
Continuously Variable Crossfeed: Front-panel knob fine-tunes interaural level differences, engaging a true internal relay when active to keep the signal path completely clean when bypassed.
Burr-Brown OPA 2134 Op-Amps: Audiophile-grade preamplification architecture yields a lively, responsive sound with a near-zero distortion rate of 0.00008%.
High-Current Class AB Design: Powerful push-pull output stage utilizing thermally coupled transistors delivers consistent, stable current to any headphone load.
High-Voltage ±17V Internal Rail: Boosts incoming external power to generate maximum headroom and a massive dynamic range up to +22.5 dBu.
Dual Line Inputs (TRS & RCA): Easily switches between balanced professional studio gear (+4 dBu) and unbalanced consumer sources like media players.
Precision Aluminum Housing: Sleek, compact desktop enclosure featuring a premium aluminum front panel and a heavy-duty, tactile volume potentiometer.
