By stripping away the complex preamplifier layouts, dual balanced XLR outputs, and multi-stage matrix configurations found on the Phonitor x and xe, the Phonitor se channels 100% of its engineering toward a single target: driving a standard 1/4" headphone connection with pure, unadulterated high-voltage power. It takes up a beautifully compact, low-profile desktop footprint while inheriting the exact same operational DNA that has made SPL a legend in world-class mastering studios.

Pure 120V VOLTAiR Core Drive:
Like every flagship product in the SPL lineup, the Phonitor se is built around our custom 120V VOLTAiR technology. While standard headphone amplifiers rely on low-voltage integrated operational amplifier circuits (typically running on +/-15V or +/-18V DC rails), the Phonitor se operates on a massive internal plus/minus 60V DC power rail matrix. This structural advantage gives the amplifier four times the electrical ceiling of conventional consumer audio gear. Dynamic spikes and complex low-frequency sub-bass waves are reproduced with absolute ease, completely eliminating internal signal compression, clipping distortion, and listener brain fatigue.
The Essentials of the Phonitor Matrix:
Headphone listening inherently suffers from an unnatural left-and-right isolation effect often referred to as "super-stereo," which places the musical soundstage squarely inside your skull rather than out in the room. The Phonitor se fixes this issue by incorporating a streamlined version of the all-analog Phonitor Matrix:
Optimized Speaker Crossfeed: Replicates the subtle interaural time and level differences that occur naturally when listening to physical loudspeakers in an open acoustic room.
Fixed 30-Degree Angle: The speaker angle is set to a standard 30 degrees, which is the exact geometric placement used by mixing engineers and audiophiles globally for reference monitoring.
Two-Stage Crossfeed Control: Features a front-panel switch allowing you to choose between two distinct crossfeed intensities (C1 and C2) or bypass the circuit completely. This shifts the stereo image cleanly outside your head, providing an authentic, three-dimensional loudspeaker soundstage.
Effortless Power and Sleek Control Integration:
The Phonitor se provides incredible driving authority, pushing out up to 2 x 5 Watts into 250 Ohms on its front-panel 6.35mm (1/4") TRS headphone port. This gives it more than enough reserve power to control high-impedance studio dynamics and power-hungry planar magnetic headphones with absolute precision.
Motorized ALPS Control: Level adjustments are managed via a solid, weighted aluminum volume dial connected to a premium ALPS RK27 "Big Blue" analog potentiometer.
Universal IR Learning: The integrated remote sensor chip can learn the volume up and down codes from any standard infrared (IR) remote, letting you manage listening levels comfortably from across your room.
High-Res Upgrade Path: The unit comes ready for expansion. It can be ordered with or upgraded later via an optional internal DAC768xs processing module, adding reference-grade 32-bit asynchronous USB, Coaxial, and Optical digital inputs straight into your high-voltage amplifier.
