The Ultimate Desktop Destination for High-Resolution Headphone Audio
While standard high-end components try to serve multiple master layouts—often splitting real estate between line preamps and general amplification circuitry—the Phonitor xe is built with singular, unwavering focus. It does not feature external preamplifier line outputs. Every milliamp of current and every square millimeter of internal board architecture is optimized solely to decode digital data and power headphones.
By integrating the top-tier DAC768 processing module directly onto the main system board, the Phonitor xe functions as a direct, ultra-low-jitter destination for high-resolution network transports, physical CD players, and studio computing interfaces. The converted digital stream routes straight into discrete analog filtering stages built on high-voltage circuitry, bypassing the noisy IC operational amplifiers that limit ordinary conversion decks.
The Power of 120V VOLTAiR Headphone Core Amplification:
The structural foundation of the Phonitor xe is SPL’s proprietary VOLTAiR technology. Operating on a high-voltage plus/minus 60V DC internal power rail matrix—effectively double the operating voltage of discrete semiconductor configurations and four times that of traditional IC-based head-amps—the Phonitor xe sets a new benchmark for technical performance. This high-voltage headroom allows the amplifier to handle quick musical spikes and complex sub-bass transients without compressed dynamics or clipping. Music retains its complete structural shape, spatial timing, and effortless macro-dynamics, keeping playback smooth and completely free from listening fatigue.
The Phonitor Matrix – Loudspeaker Simulation Framework:
Traditional headphone listening forces an artificial left-and-right channel separation that creates a tiring "super-stereo" effect. The Phonitor xe solves this with its acclaimed all-analog Phonitor Matrix:
Crossfeed Control: Replicates the interaural level and time differences between channels, mimicking the natural sound-wave bleeding that happens when listening to physical monitors in an open room.
Angle Control: Configures the simulated placement of the stereo soundstage, letting you toggle between 15, 22, 30, or 45-degree speaker angles.
By engaging this pure analog circuit, the music shifts out from inside your head and opens up into a realistic, three-dimensional stereo soundstage right in front of you.
Integrated DAC768 Architecture and DLP120 Dual Filters:
The factory-installed DAC768 module utilizes the highly acclaimed AKM AK4490 Velvet Sound™ premium chip architecture. It effortlessly translates high-resolution PCM streams at 32-bit depth up to a blistering 768 kHz, while natively decoding Direct Stream Digital signals up to DSD256 (DSD4) over asynchronous USB.
Dual VOLTAiR Filtering: Instead of using general off-the-shelf low-pass chips, the Phonitor xe features two discrete DLP120 low-pass filters running on 120V rails. One filter is dedicated solely to PCM streams and the other to DSD playback, ensuring that high-frequency digital artifacts are removed without introducing phase issues into the analog realm.
Dual-Sided Connectivity and Complete Control Mastery:
The Phonitor xe offers uncompromised connectivity, featuring dual premium output blocks mirrored on both the front and rear panels. This clean design allows you to route thick, heavy custom cables neatly out of the back for fixed desktop listening, while leaving the front panel completely open for quick monitoring switches.
Dual Output Layout: Both sides carry a balanced 4-pin XLR connector alongside a standard 6.35mm (1/4") TRS jack. A front toggle lets you switch between outputs instantly for clean A/B headphone testing.
Laterality Balance Correction: Features a high-precision analog fine-tuning potentiometer to effortlessly compensate for subtle hearing variances or channel imbalances between left and right drivers.
Universal IR Remote Sync: The 45mm aluminum volume knob connects to a motorized ALPS RK27 "Big Blue" analog potentiometer. The unit can learn the volume up and down codes from any standard infrared remote, letting you manage volume adjustments from across the room.
120V VOLTAiR OPERATING CORE: High-voltage audio architecture provides immense headroom, an ultra-silent background, and zero signal compression.
SINGULAR HEADPHONE MONITOR FOCUS: Purely optimized for headphone performance with no preamplifier line-output circuits to corrupt the signal.
INTEGRATED FLAGSHIP DAC768: Implements premium 32-bit AKM Velvet Sound decoding across Coaxial, Optical, AES/EBU, and USB nodes.
768 kHz PCM & NATIVE DSD256: Decodes high-resolution PCM up to 768 kHz and native DSD up to DSD256 over asynchronous USB.
DURE DISCRETE DLP120 FILTERS: Employs independent 120V low-pass filtering modules for PCM and DSD formats.
ANALOG PHONITOR MATRIX ENGINE: Recreates genuine loudspeaker-style stereo imaging and soundstage placement across headphones via adjustable Crossfeed and Angle arrays.
MIRRORED FRONT AND REAR HOOKUPS: Balanced 4-pin XLR and standard 1/4" TRS headphone ports are accessible on both the front and rear panels.
MOTORIZED ALPS "BIG BLUE" POT: Massive 45mm weighted aluminum volume dial driven by a premium automated ALPS fader with an integrated red tracking LED.
IR REMOTE CODE PAIRING: Smart infrared controller chip quickly programs to adjust volume levels from your favorite third-party remote.
TWIN MECHANICAL VU METERS: Classic retro needle displays monitor incoming stereo signal levels accurately with a 3-position sensitivity switch.
