The Neumann TLM 67 is a contemporary tribute to the legendary U 67, the microphone that defined the sound of the 1960s. By pairing the iconic K 67 capsule with a sophisticated transformerless FET circuit, the TLM 67 recreates the beloved "retro" tube character with modern reliability. Featuring three switchable polar patterns and a unique pearl-gray and nickel dual-color finish, this microphone is a versatile workhorse for vocals, speech, and a wide array of instruments, offering a smooth, classic sound for the 21st-century studio.

Product Overview

The TLM 67 (008605) was released to commemorate Neumann's 80th anniversary and honors its heritage by reimagining the "desert island" microphone of the '60s. While it lacks the tubes and bulky external power supplies of its predecessor, its internal sound design is meticulously tuned to mimic the soft saturation and midrange warmth of the original U 67. The front is graced by a three-dimensional metal emblem of Georg Neumann, signaling its status as a premium, high-fidelity tool designed for both aesthetic elegance and sonic excellence.

Product Description

Retro Sound through Modern FET Engineering:

The magic of the TLM 67 lies in its ability to deliver "vintage soul" without vintage maintenance. Its solid-state head amplifier is designed to reproduce the dynamic behavior of the EF 86 tube. As the sound pressure increases, the circuit introduces a gentle, musical saturation rather than harsh clipping. This allows you to capture the "roundness" and harmonic richness associated with classic recordings while benefiting from a modern, ultra-quiet noise floor of only 11 dB-A (in cardioid).

The Iconic K 67 Capsule & Versatile Patterns:

The TLM 67 uses the same large-diaphragm K 67 capsule found in the legendary U 67 and the modern U 87 A. This dual-diaphragm transducer provides three switchable directional characteristics: Omnidirectional, Cardioid, and Figure-8. This flexibility makes it indispensable for everything from intimate solo vocals to capturing the natural bloom of a room or recording two singers simultaneously in a podcast or interview setting.

Acoustical Precision and Control:

To ensure the highest signal integrity, the TLM 67 features a large, tapered wire-mesh headgrille that minimizes internal reflections. On the rear, you’ll find two critical control switches:

  • -10 dB Pre-attenuation: Prevents overloading following devices when recording high-SPL sources like loud brass or guitar amplifiers.

  • High-Pass Filter: Features a cutoff frequency designed to suppress low-frequency rumble and wind noise, or to compensate for the proximity effect during close-miking.

Distinctive Anniversary Design:

Visually, the TLM 67 stands apart from the standard Neumann lineup. Its unique dual-color scheme—combining a classic satin nickel head with a pearl-gray body—pays homage to the industrial design of the 1960s. The capsule is elastically mounted to protect against structure-borne noise, and the entire unit is shipped in a high-quality Wooden Case, making it a centerpiece for any professional recording environment.
