The Best of Both Worlds: Creamy Tube Warmth Meets Sharp Solid-State Transient Bite
Most project and professional studio owners face a common dilemma: solid-state preamps offer incredible clarity and lightning-fast transient response, but they can sometimes sound sterile. Conversely, tube preamps deliver unmatched harmonic warmth and body, but they can soften the sharp edges of explosive sounds. The award-winning Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity completely eliminates this compromise.
By running two entirely distinct, phase-aligned analog gain paths in parallel inside a single chassis, the 710 lets you dial in the exact percentage of solid-state precision and tube character your source requires. Turn the central blending control completely counter-clockwise for "wire with gain" transparency on delicate acoustic elements, or spin it clockwise to introduce rich, saturated tube warmth on thin pop vocals and rock instruments. It is a radical, creative tone-shaping solution built within reach of any serious recording budget.
Phase-Aligned Twin-Finity Circuitry and Dual Gain-Staging:
The signature engineering achievement behind the 710 Twin-Finity is its capability to combine a true high-voltage 310-volt single-ended Class-A triode vacuum tube stage (powered by a premium 12AX7 tube) alongside a sophisticated solid-state transimpedance gain stage. A variable solid-state transimpedance input amplifier simultaneously drives both paths. Because the two internal signals are perfectly phase-aligned before they are summed to a single balanced output, you can spin the Blend knob smoothly to any ratio without experiencing thinness or comb-filtering phase cancellation.
Like high-end guitar amplifiers, the 710 features dual-stage control over your gain structure via independent Gain and Level knobs. Cranking the input Gain control pushes the internal tube circuit into classic harmonic distortion, providing everything from a subtle analog thicken effect to creamy, crunchy overdrive. The master Level knob is then used to safely attenuate the output so you do not clip the sensitive inputs of your digital audio interface.
Ultra-High Impedance JFET DI Box with Auto-Detect:
On its faceplate, the 710 Twin-Finity hosts a premium discrete JFET Direct Injection (DI) input with an ultra-high input impedance of 2.2 MΩ. This incredibly high loading capacity makes it one of the absolute best DI boxes available for instruments, easily preserving the full top-end clarity and low-frequency depth of both passive and active guitar/bass pickups. Thanks to its smart Jack Detect circuitry, plugging an instrument cable into the front panel instantly bypasses the rear-panel microphone/line inputs, creating an efficient and fast desktop workflow.
Rugged Form Factor and Professional Interface Utilities:
The 710 Twin-Finity is housed in a heavy-duty all-metal enclosure that works beautifully as a portable desktop unit or a permanent rack fixture. Its half-rack design means two 710 units can be joined side-by-side to create a dual-channel powerhouse across a standard 19-inch rack space using the included 19" rack-mount kit. For technical precision, the responsive backlit analog VU meter can be toggled via a front-panel switch between standard Output monitoring and a dedicated "Drive" mode, providing a clear visual representation of exactly how hard your incoming signal is hitting the internal tube-blending matrix.
CONTINUOUS TONE BLENDING: Phase-aligned dual gain path allows smooth, variable blending from 100% discrete solid-state to 100% vacuum tube tone.
HIGH-VOLTAGE TUBE CIRCUIT: Features a true 310V single-ended Class-A triode tube stage driven by a hand-selected 12AX7 tube for authentic retro warmth.
DUAL-STAGE TONE COLORATION: Separate Gain and Level controls allow you to deliberately overdrive the input stage for creamy, musical saturation.
2.2 MΩ ULTRA-HI-Z INSTRUMENT DI: Discrete JFET direct input circuit prevents signal loss and perfectly matches passive or active bass and guitar pickups.
AUTOMATIC JACK DETECTION: Intelligent front-panel 1/4" input automatically switches the preamp routing away from the rear jacks the moment a cable is inserted.
BACKLIT "DRIVE" VU METER: Dual-mode illuminated moving-coil meter tracks final output levels or displays internal input overdrive depth at a glance.
BUILT-IN TONE UTILITIES: Complete front-panel layout includes toggles for +48V Phantom Power, a -15dB Pad, Phase Inversion, and a 75Hz Low-Cut filter.
19" RACK-MOUNT KIT INCLUDED: Ships complete with heavy-duty rack-mounting hardware to easily install a single or paired configuration into studio racks.
