Product Overview

Three Eras of Legendary Amp-Driven Tremolo, Perfected for the Direct Rig

More than a simple volume-dipping utility, vintage tremolo is a living, breathing component of music history. The way an older tube amplifier's bias circuit sagged and modulated gave early rock, surf, and cinematic soundtracks a distinct pulse that felt completely integrated with the player's dynamics. The Universal Audio UAFX Flow Vintage Tremolo captures that exact mechanical magic, packing three distinct eras of vintage amplification history into a single-width chassis.

Instead of deploying flat digital LFO curves, Flow runs component-level physical emulations of the actual vacuum tubes, photocells, and resistor networks found in rare vintage heads. It retains the subtle phase shifts, the harmonic saturation, and the natural volume interactions that make vintage hardware feel alive under your fingers.

Product Description

Three Masterfully Modeled Tremolo Modes:

Flow features a dedicated 3-way Mode toggle switch on the faceplate, letting you quickly transition between three uniquely voiced analog modulation topologies:

  • Dharma (Harmonic): An immaculate recreation of the legendary, rare early-1960s American "Brownface" amplifier circuit. Rather than just dipping your volume, it splits your high and low frequencies into separate bands and modulates them out of phase. The result is a chewing, hypnotic, and swimming pitch-vibrato style modulation that sounds like a cross between a rotating speaker and a vintage phaser.

  • 65 (Round/Optical): A spot-on component modeling of the definitive 1965 American blackface combo amp opto-coupler tremolo. This optical circuit produces a smooth, sinusoidal wave shape with a gorgeous, dark, and musical pulsing character. It is the signature sound of classic surf rock, spaghetti western soundscapes, and vintage delta blues.

  • Square (Choppy): A modern, hard-edged square-wave configuration that creates a sharp, percussive, helicopter-like on/off stutter. Perfect for rhythmic indie rock tracks, modern ambient pads, or gating synth textures, this mode delivers absolute precision without losing the underlying warmth of the pedal's modeled audio path.

Integrated Tube Preamp Drive and Dynamic Tap Tempo:

A major issue with vintage tremolo pedals is that they often sound thin or cause a perceived volume drop when engaged. Flow completely eliminates this by embedding an authentic, always-active emulation of a vintage tube preamp circuit. The integrated Volume control lets you dial in a clean volume boost to cut through a dense mix, or push the virtual tube input stage into a sweet, rich harmonic overdrive.

For absolute rhythmic control on stage, Flow includes an intuitive Tap Tempo workflow. By holding down the heavy-duty foot switch, you can tap out your desired performance speed on the fly. The built-in Tapper/Subdivision control allows you to instantly map the LFO rate to quarter notes, triplets, eighth notes, or sixteenth notes relative to your tapped tempo.

Pristine Signal Management and Modern Build Quality:

Designed to drop seamlessly into the most demanding professional touring rigs, Flow features a premium Analog Dry-Through circuit path. Your core instrument signal bypasses the digital engine completely in the analog domain, ensuring zero digital latency and zero coloration of your original tone.

The rear panel features a dedicated hardware slider, giving you immediate control over your bypass methodology: choose True Bypass for an uncompromised, clean line when the pedal is off, or Buffered Bypass to preserve your high-end frequencies over massive cable lengths and crowded boards.

Key Features

  • COMPREHENSIVE AMP EMULATION: Component-level digital recreation of history's finest tube-driven and optical amplifier tremolo circuits.

  • THREE VERSATILE MODULATION MODES: Choose between rare 1960s Harmonic (Dharma), classic 1965 Optical (65), and hard-edged stutter (Square) wave shapes.

  • AUTHENTIC TUBE PREAMP CHARACTER: Features an always-active virtual tube preamp path that adds harmonic warmth and analog thickness.

  • INTEGRATED VOLUME BOOST STAGE: Dedicated Volume knob provides variable output level adjustment to prevent perceived mix loss when engaged.

  • SMART TAP TEMPO FOOTSWITCH: Hold the footswitch to tap tempos on the fly, with selectable rhythmic subdivisions for precise synchronization.

  • PURE ANALOG DRY-THROUGH: Your dry signal remains completely untouched in the analog domain to protect dynamic and tonal integrity.

  • SWITCHABLE TRUE / BUFFERED BYPASS: Select between absolute true mechanical relay bypass or a pristine buffered path via the rear slider switch.

  • COMPACT, COMPONENT-LEVEL DESIGN: Premium die-cast aluminum chassis wraps elite studio DSP inside a compact, pedalboard-friendly footprint.
