The KM A is part of Neumann’s modular small-diaphragm system, which separates the acoustic capsule from the electronic output stage. This modularity allows engineers to swap between different polar patterns (omni, cardioid, etc.) using a single output body. The KM A is the analog version (operating on standard P48 phantom power), offering a more flexible and robust alternative to the fixed Series 180. It is engineered to provide a pristine signal path for the most critical studio and stage recordings.

The KM A is the heart of a flexible recording system. It is fully compatible with the entire range of KK series capsule heads (such as the KK 184 or KK 131). This allows you to build the exact microphone you need for any session. Furthermore, the capsule can be detached from the KM A and placed up to 100 meters away using a specialized extension cable (LC 4), making it perfect for discreet placement on film sets or high-up in orchestral halls.

Advanced Transformerless Circuitry:

Equipped with a high-end transformerless output stage, the KM A ensures a signal that is free from the coloration or distortion often associated with traditional transformers. It offers a wide dynamic range of 127 dB and extremely low self-noise. This circuitry is designed to maintain the absolute sonic integrity of the attached capsule, delivering a transparent and "fast" transient response.

Professional Features & Connectivity:

The KM A includes a switchable -10 dB pre-attenuation (pad), allowing the microphone system to handle extremely high sound pressure levels (up to 152 dB depending on the capsule) without clipping. Its low-impedance output stage is designed to drive very long cable runs without any loss in audio quality or transmission interference.
