The KM A nx is part of Neumann’s modular small-diaphragm system, which separates the acoustic capsule from the electronic output stage. This modularity allows engineers to swap between different polar patterns (omni, cardioid, etc.) using a single output body. The KM A nx is the analog version (operating on standard P48 phantom power), offering a flexible and robust alternative to the fixed Series 180. It is specifically engineered for high-end broadcast, film, and live stage environments where visual discretion is paramount.
Modular Versatility & Customization:
The KM A nx is the heart of a flexible recording system. It is fully compatible with the entire range of KK series capsule heads (such as the KK 184 nx or KK 183 nx). This allows you to build the exact microphone you need for any session. Furthermore, the capsule can be detached from the KM A nx and placed up to 100 meters away using specialized extension cables (LC 4), making it perfect for discreet placement on film sets or hidden orchestral arrays.
Advanced Transformerless Circuitry:
Equipped with a high-end transformerless output stage, the KM A nx ensures a signal that is free from the coloration or distortion often associated with traditional transformers. It offers a wide dynamic range and extremely low self-noise. This circuitry is designed to maintain the absolute sonic integrity of the attached capsule, delivering a transparent and "fast" transient response suitable for high-resolution digital recording.
Professional Features for High SPL:
The KM A nx includes a switchable -10 dB pre-attenuation (pad), allowing the microphone system to handle extremely high sound pressure levels—up to 152 dB (depending on the capsule)—without clipping. This makes it ideal for close-miking loud percussion, brass sections, or guitar amplifiers. Its low-impedance output stage is designed to drive very long cable runs without any loss in audio quality.
Designed for Visual Discretion:
The "nx" designation stands for Nextel Black, a specialized technical coating that is deeply matte and non-reflective. This finish ensures that the microphone body does not create distracting glares or hotspots under intense studio or stage lighting, making it the industry choice for television studios and orchestral broadcasts.
Modular Compatibility: Works with all KK 131, 133, 143, 145, 183, 184, and 185 capsule heads.
Nextel Black (nx) Finish: Non-reflective, scratch-resistant matte coating for TV/Film.
Transformerless Design: Provides an ultra-clean, transparent signal path.
Switchable -10 dB Pad: Allows for recording very loud sound sources up to 152 dB SPL.
Low Self-Noise: Maintains a pristine floor for critical acoustic recordings.
Flexible Deployment: Capsules can be used remotely via extension cables (LC 4).
Broadcast & TV: The non-reflective finish is ideal for high-profile on-camera musical performances.
Classical & Orchestral: Perfect for Decca Trees and spot miking where capsules must be hidden.
High-SPL Environments: Excellent for close-miking loud sources like snare drums or trumpets.
Studio Versatility: Allows engineers to switch polar patterns by simply changing capsules.
