Redefining Analog Stereo Expansion Without Phase Compromise
The SPL BiG [STUDIO] addresses one of the most persistent hurdles in modern music production: achieving a massive, wider-than-life stereo image without introducing the phase artifacts, hollow comb filtering, or center-image collapse that usually plagues widening processors. Built around the celebrated architecture of SPL's award-winning 500-series module, this enhanced 19-inch rack edition expands your creative sound-shaping toolset by integrating a dedicated, high-voltage dual-triode tube circuit.
By manipulating a specialized analog difference signal and mixing it back into the primary signal path, BiG [STUDIO] stretches boundaries, carving out distinct front-to-back placement and expansive lateral space. Whether strapped across a stereo master bus, grouped on instrument stems, or treated as a creative sound design tool, it makes your music feel open, expensive, and beautifully dimensional while guaranteeing flawless, punchy summing on mono playback networks.
Proprietary Analog Filtering Network (Not Traditional M/S):
Unlike typical stereo processors that simply boost the Side components of an M/S matrix, the BiG [STUDIO] derives an intelligent difference signal from the input audio. This signal is processed through a complex, fully balanced analog filter network before being blended back with the original track in a custom passive mixing stage. This unique phase contribution allows you to radically widen your tracks. When your mix is summed back to mono, the added signals fold in perfectly, leaving a clean, punchy center channel entirely free of phase cancellations, thinning, or comb-filtering artifacts.
Integrated +250V Tube Harmonics Engine:
Unique to this 19-inch rack configuration is an independent Tube Harmonics generator. Operating on an elite, internal +250V high-voltage anode rail, the vacuum tube introduces rich, even-order harmonic saturation that refines the overall acoustic spectrum. Controlled via a front-panel toggle button and an analog potentiometer, this stage makes vocals, synthesizers, and overhead arrays sound more vivid, detailed, and warm, giving individual elements an organic texture that sits beautifully in the stereo field.
Intuitive, Surgical Stage Mapping Layout:
The elegant black front panel provides highly interactive controls designed for precision adjustments:
Range Potentiometer: Selects the specific frequency spectrum targeted for stereo widening, giving you the focus to open up high-end sparkle or wrap mid-range pads around the listener.
Stage Control: Shifts the targeted frequency range forward or backward on the auditory soundstage, establishing a tangible front-to-back depth perspective.
BIGNESS Control: A massive center potentiometer that precisely sets the depth and blending intensity of the stereo expansion layer.
Passive Bass Boost Switch: Activates a tight, warm low-end boost centered at 42 Hz (+2 dB). This circuitry utilizes a passive filter design inspired by the acclaimed AirBass circuit found on the premium SPL IRON Mastering Compressor.
PROPRIETARY STEREO PROCESSOR: Uses an analog filter network that creates expansive stereo width and depth without relying on traditional M/S matrixing.
+250V HIGH-VOLTAGE TUBE STAGE: Dedicated vacuum tube circuit injects adjustable harmonic saturation to make signals sound vivid and "bigger than life."
FLAWLESS MONO COMPATIBILITY: Advanced phase alignment keeps the center image strong and punchy when summed down to mono playback systems.
PASSIVE AIRBASS INTEGRATION: Dedicated low-end filter switch adds +2 dB of warmth at 42 Hz, inspired by the flagship SPL IRON Mastering Compressor.
EXTENDED RANGE & STAGE CONTROLS: Stretched control pots let you isolate specific frequency zones and map their front-to-back placement on the stage.
$\pm$18V HIGH-HEADROOM AUDIO RAILS: High internal operating voltages deliver an ultra-wide 120 dB dynamic range with exceptional headroom.
PARALLEL XLR & TRS CONNECTIONS: Rear-panel gold-plated Neutrik XLR and 1/4" TRS jacks are wired in parallel to simplify studio patchbay routing.
STUDIO SERIES 1U CHASSIS: 4mm thick black anodized aluminum faceplate with solid-milled aluminum knobs, housed in a durable powder-coated steel case.
