Level-Independent Transient Control Formatted for the Modern Lunchbox
The SPL TDx provides a powerful solution to a classic dynamic processing challenge: reshaping the initial transient strike or tail-end decay of an acoustic event without destroying its natural performance dynamics. Standard compressors and gates rely heavily on input thresholds, meaning quiet notes miss the processing entirely while loud notes choke and pump the audio signal.
The TDx module completely bypasses this threshold constraint by using SPL's proprietary Differential Envelope Technology. Hand-assembled in Germany, this single-slot module tracks the structural envelope of your audio rather than absolute volume peaks. This ensures that whether a drummer plays a soft ghost note or an explosive rimshot, the chosen attack enhancement or sustain decay remains perfectly uniform across the entire performance track.
Proprietary Differential Envelope Technology (DET):
The underlying engineering of the TDx relies on two specialized envelope followers that generate control voltages in real time. One follower tracks the incoming signal exactly as it is, while the second uses a calculated time-delay curve to smooth out transient peaks. By subtracting these two envelopes from each other, the DET circuit extracts the pure, isolated transient strike. This allows the user to scale the attack phase up or down with total linear accuracy, leaving the rest of the signal's sustain stage completely untouched.
Dual-Sided Dynamic Reshaping Interface:
The clean, un-stepped analog rotary knobs give you smooth and immediate control over the two most critical phases of an audio waveform:
Attack Enhancement: Cranking the control upward adds snappy definition, wood-crack bite, and front-end punch to dull kick drums, snares, and acoustic guitars. Turning it downward softens the transient attack, making harsh plucked instruments sit further back smoothly in the mix.
Sustain Extension/Reduction: Raising the control lengthens the ring and decay of tom-toms, extends room ambiance, and adds compression-like body to vocals and string pads. Turning it down acts like a precise expander, cleanly muting ring, room bleed, and unwanted guitar amp buzz.
Onboard Filter Matrix and Parallel Mix Control:
Continuous Filter FX Pot: The TDx introduces a dedicated frequency control switch that routes the sidechain path through a specialized high-pass or low-pass filter. This allows you to restrict the transient detection to a specific frequency range—such as focusing only on the high-end snap of a snare while ignoring low-end kick drum bleed.
Parallel Mix/Dry-Wet Pot: A built-in analog blending circuit lets you combine the fully processed transient signal with the completely dry original audio. This makes it easy to apply extreme attack amplification or heavy sustain extension and then blend it back subtly for balanced, natural-sounding parallel transient processing.
500 SERIES SINGLE-SLOT DESIGN: Houses SPL's legendary Transient Designer circuitry inside a space-saving single-slot module for 500 series racks.
DIFFERENTIAL ENVELOPE DESIGN: Shapes attack and sustain shapes level-independently, processing soft and loud signals with identical intensity.
UNMATCHED ATTACK SHAPING: Increases front-end punch and acoustic stick crack up to +15 dB, or attenuates sharp transients down by -15 dB.
EXTENDED SUSTAIN TAIL CONTROL: Extends instrument ring and room resonance up to +24 dB, or tightens and mutes decay trails down by -24 dB.
INTEGRATED SIDECHAIN FILTER FX: Built-in filter control shifts detection parameters from low to high frequencies to target specific instruments in a group.
ANALOG PARALLEL MIX KNOB: Continuously variable dry/wet control permits fast parallel processing blends directly on the faceplate.
SIGNAL PRESENT LED INDICATOR: Includes a dedicated front-panel visual LED indicator that illuminates green to confirm active audio signal passing through the module.
PREMIUM GERMAN HARDWARE BUILD: Engineered in Germany utilizing high-grade discrete components, a 4mm aluminum faceplate, and solid aluminum knobs.
